It is much fun to read the English writings from freshman students of the Japanese major. They are very imaginative in making their own "Top 5" lists about life in SISU, offering advice on self-study venues, healing spots and even menu choices. SISU even sounds like a Songjiang version of Hogwarts School in their writing. Thanks to their descriptions, we “SISU veterans” now can see our familiar campus with fresh eyes.

A SISU Foodie’s Recommendation

BREAKFAST

The egg stuffed pancake served in 2B cafeteria is one of the most delicious choices for breakfast. Green lettuce leaves and a pink sausage are wrapped by a golden egg pie. Such a “Chinese pancake” can provide you enough energy for the whole morning.

LUNCH

If you are looking for a dish which is both delicious and nutritious, you can’t miss the Japanese style omurice! In terms of taste, it offers a relatively customizable choice, because students can choose their favourite sauce from curry, tomato or pickle versions. As for nutrition, such a set meal balances your diet by adding sufficient vegetables to offset the excessive intake of oil.

DINNER

Health is probably the top priority for dinner menu. If so, the “fitness meal” on the third floor will be your best choice. Various fresh fruits and vegetables such as bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers are available on the list. Don’t worry that these food cannot fill you up, because food like chicken breast, beef, crab sticks, and toasted potatoes could give you the feeling of fullness but much fewer calories. You can certainly find the ideal recipe to satisfy both your stomach and palate.

DRINK

No one can resist the temptation of milk tea! A cup of bubble milk tea will brighten your whole day especially in winter! Imagine how contented you will be when you hold a cup of hot milk tea in hands and greedily swallow down the sweet and soft bubbles in the freezing wind. I strongly recommend the bubble milk tea with highland barley.

SNACK

If you may feel too guilty after gulping down an entire cup of milk tea, I then suggest the yoghurt cup. Cereals and small pieces of fruits are mixed into the smooth yoghurt, and the tastes of sour and sweet will linger on the tip of your tongue. It’s the best choice when you want to treat yourself to something nice, but not too much.

The Top Five Magic Places in SISU

日本文化经济学院  2020级2班

“Healing Slope”

It’s also known as the “Lovers’ Slope” in SISU, but it does not matter if you do not have a lover. On a sunny day, you can go and bathe in the sun alone or with your friends. You can lie on the grass and take a nap, or read a good book, or immerse yourself in your favourite music.  A few hours here can help you find your strength and energy back.

“Magic Benches”

There are two benches between “the Healing Slope” and the No. 3 teaching building. Why do I call them “Magic Benches”? Because every time when I have a bad mood, I will come here to sit for a while, and my mood will soon get much better like magic. It is also fun to sit on the “magic bench” and watch people come and go as if I were under a cloak of invisibility.

“Magnetic Library”

I don’t know if you have noticed that there are so many doors in the library, just like the “dimension door” of Doraemon. It seems that each door in the library will take you to a different place, and each book will bring to you a different view of the world, and you easily forget the passage of time here.

There’s also a magic corner in the library for me-- the small corner on the fifth floor where Uyghur books are displayed. Every time I feel homesick and lonely, I will go to read those books or just sit there and watch them quietly.

“Secret Garden”

Opposite the Activity Center, there is a small garden. I name this place the “secret garden” because I have had a lot of secret moments here. I have hidden and cried here several times. I watched the first ray of sunshine in the morning here. I also saw the most beautiful dusk here. I always enjoy its quiet and peace.

“Enchanting Playground”

The playground is often noisy. But once you put on headphones, you are immediately shut in your own little world. When you feel upset, you can take a walk on the playground or run a few laps to relieve the pressure. When it rains, you may even spot some as depressed snails as you if you are lucky.

In fact, our campus is a “magic campus”. As long as you look hard, you will find more “hidden magic”.

The Top Five Places for Self-study in SISU

 日本文化经济学院    2020级1班

罗依婷

SISU is a university where the self-study ability is highly valued. So today I’d like to introduce the top 5 places in SISU for after-class study.

The library is widely seen as the best place for focused study. Study rooms are available on at least four storeys of SISU’s library where all learning needs are neatly covered. For example, every desk has its socket and drinking fountains can be found at every storey. In a word, studying in the library is the best choice for most SISU students.

Besides the library, the first teaching building is also a fantastic place for self-study. This building is used for international education and every study room there is equipped with quality illuminating system. While students may easily get tired after a couple of hours’ study elsewhere, the lighting system here can effectively help them to keep concentrating through the night. Because of that, lots of students tend to study overnight in this building to prepare for the final examination.

If students need some refreshment, then Luckin Coffee House will be the perfect site. With affordable prices and a variety of beverages, the coffee house is a cozy place to alleviate their exhaustion. But if you take this place as a spot for relaxation and chatting, then you are all wrong. The learning atmosphere here is almost as tense as that of the library.

The last two recommended places for self-study would be the third and the eighth teaching building. Both of them are super quiet and can undoubtedly meet the demands of students who need an undisturbed environment for foreign language study.

Overall, still other self-study spots are to be explored in SISU campus. Whatever your needs are, you can certainly find an ideal place for your learning style.
